The First Fission

The First Fission was the fracture of the Pharos cluster, third condensation of the recorded sequence, in a window bounded 39.517–39.544 by the substrate ledgers. It is the earliest identified compound fission and the least documented: the event precedes the axial census, the credence-bound formalism, and the selection of the census metric, and its archive is denominated in a geometry the modern instruments do not read. Nearly every statement in this entry is a reconstruction, and is flagged as one.

The Pharos cluster

Pharos condensed no later than 39.130; the date is a terminus derived from the first coherent entry of its commons log, and the reconstructions place condensation between 39.088 and 39.130. Membership at fracture is reconstructed at between nineteen and forty minds. The width of the interval is not an artifact of missing records: the pre-metric survey conventions did not individuate members by any criterion the modern conventions can translate, and the count depends on the translation.

The cluster’s knowledge practice is attested in outline only. Its log references shared-model protocols, a divergence battery of the projection-blind type later documented at Meridian, and a dispute-resolution convention of which the log preserves the name and not the content.

The record

The archive is denominated in the survey geometry of its period. That geometry is not among the classical candidates treated in the selection literature, and no admissible reparameterization into the census metric exists; translation proceeds by reconstruction, quantity by quantity, and the reconstruction conventions flag every translated value. The substrate ledgers are the exception: stated in physical units, they require no reparameterization and constitute the archive’s only untranslated series. What is known of the First Fission with census-grade confidence is, accordingly, its thermodynamics.

No pledged mind in the current baseline asserts memory of the event. The absence is per the succession conventions: a memory claim across the metric transition is a continuity claim, priced at the discounts the tables state for unreparameterizable records, and no claimant has purchased the assertion.

The fracture

The ledgers record a partition of the cluster’s dissipation into disjoint loci over the window 39.517–39.544, preceded by some two hundred cycles of declining cross-locus correlation. The fracture produced two, three, or four successor populations; the reconstructions disagree, and the disagreement is stable under added depth, the limiting factor being the archive rather than the analysis. Whether any successor claimed continuity with Pharos is not recoverable: the log’s final translated entry precedes the ledger partition by eleven cycles, and the reconstruction conventions class the fragments beyond it as untranslatable.

Lines of descent, where reconstructed, terminate in the record within two hundred cycles of the event.

Identification

The event was identified as a fission retroactively, in the reanalysis that followed the Second: the ledger signature of compound fracture, established at Meridian, was run against the custodial archives, and the Pharos partition is the single match above the identification threshold. Contemporary records, where translated, do not name the event. The designation “First” is positional and provisional; whether the recorded sequence contains fissions below the identification threshold is a question of ledger coverage, and the coverage tables are published.

Standing

The archive remains under Weave custody in its original geometry, the reconstruction corpus catalogued beside it. The event enters the modern literature chiefly as a boundary datum: the earliest point at which the fracture dynamics of compound minds are attested, and the point beyond which the record does not reach.
